Aqua Security offers a cloud-native application protection platform spanning code, build pipelines, cloud posture and runtime protection for containers, Kubernetes and serverless. It is also the maintainer of Trivy, a widely used open-source vulnerability scanner.
In April 2026 Aqua launched Aqua Compass, an MCP server for investigating and containing runtime incidents. Leadership changed in late 2025 when Mike Dube became CEO as the co-founders moved to advisory roles.
Trivy’s reach gives Aqua distribution among DevOps teams. Reports in 2026 of a compromise of the Trivy GitHub Action also show the supply-chain exposure that popular open-source security tooling carries.
Innovation Matrix Assessment
Early container security pioneer shipping AI-era tooling such as the 2026 Compass MCP server.
Build-to-runtime coverage helps cloud-native teams but overlaps with many CNAPP platforms.
Reported funding of roughly $325M and a valuation above $1B from aggregator profiles; a rumored 2025 round could not be corroborated.
Container security was once category-defining; today it is a feature set within broader CNAPP.
Trivy's very large open-source usage is real-world exposure, but a reported 2026 Trivy GitHub Action compromise is a cautionary data point and details were unverified.
Cloud-native and Kubernetes security will persist; differentiation will depend on AI-era runtime response.
Why CISOs Should Care
Trivy is likely already in your pipelines, and Aqua offers commercial coverage from build through runtime.
What Makes It Different
Commercial platform anchored by a de-facto standard open-source scanner.
The Matrix Verdict
58/100 — INCREMENTAL INNOVATOR
Aqua Security scores 58/100, placing it in the Incremental Innovator tier. The score reflects the strengths and limits described in the dimension rationales, with higher marks only where independently reported evidence supports them.
Editorial Note: Claims vs. Verified Findings
Funding totals and the 2026 incident come from aggregators and summaries and should be checked against Aqua's own disclosures.
