Overview

Wiz, founded in Israel in January 2020 by four former Microsoft/Adallom executives (Assaf Rappaport, Yinon Costica, Roy Reznik, Ami Luttwak), built a cloud security posture and workload protection platform that scans AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud and Kubernetes without deploying agents on every workload. It correlates identities, network exposure, vulnerabilities, secrets and misconfigurations into a single security graph so teams can see actual attack paths rather than isolated findings.

The company scaled unusually fast, reportedly moving from roughly $1M to $100M in annual recurring revenue in under two years and crossing $1B ARR during 2025, before Google announced its acquisition of Wiz for approximately $32B in March 2025 (deal completed March 2026). Wiz has stated it will continue operating as a multi-cloud product inside Google Cloud rather than being restricted to GCP-only customers.

Wiz has been named a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for CNAPP and is, per its own release of Gartner Peer Insights data, the only CNAPP vendor named a Customers’ Choice in Gartner Peer Insights Voice of the Customer for two consecutive years (through the review period ending October 2025).

Innovation Matrix Assessment

Innovation Velocity 9/10

Rapid expansion from CSPM into code security, DSPM, AI-SPM and runtime sensors (Wiz Code, Wiz Defend) within a few years of founding, forcing incumbents to rebuild their own platforms.

Operational Value 8/10

Agentless graph model gives full-environment visibility without deployment overhead; customers cited in Gartner Peer Insights reporting a 90% reduction in false-positive alert volume.

Market Momentum 10/10

Crossed $1B ARR in 2025, over 40% of the Fortune 100 as customers per company statements, and a $32B Google acquisition — one of the largest cybersecurity exits ever.

Category Disruption 9/10

Pioneered the agentless, graph-correlated CNAPP model that pushed legacy vendors (e.g., Palo Alto's Prisma-to-Cortex Cloud rebuild) to re-architect their own platforms.

Real-World Efficacy 7/10

Strong Gartner Peer Insights customer sentiment and Fortune 100 adoption, but no independent MITRE-style red-team evaluation was found in this research to corroborate vendor efficacy claims.

Enduring Relevance 9/10

Deep entrenchment in enterprise multi-cloud estates plus Google Cloud distribution positions it to stay central as cloud and AI workload footprints keep expanding.

Why CISOs Should Care

A CISO gets full multi-cloud risk visibility and attack-path prioritization without an agent rollout project, and Gartner Peer Insights customers report large drops in alert noise for already-stretched cloud security teams.

What Makes It Different

Instead of siloed scanners for posture, vulnerabilities, identity and secrets, Wiz correlates all of it in one graph to show actual exploitable attack paths — the approach that reset expectations for the entire CNAPP category.

The Matrix Verdict

87/100 — TRANSFORMATIONAL INNOVATOR

Wiz sits at the top tier of this matrix on the strength of category-defining product architecture, historic revenue growth, and a landmark acquisition, tempered only by the absence of independent red-team efficacy data as opposed to vendor- and Gartner-sourced customer sentiment.

Editorial Note: Claims vs. Verified Findings

Revenue milestones ($100M ARR pace, $1B ARR in 2025), Fortune 100 penetration percentages, and the 90% false-positive reduction are vendor-reported or drawn from Gartner Peer Insights customer quotes cited in Wiz's own blog; the $32B Google acquisition, deal timeline, and Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader placement are independently corroborated by press and Gartner reporting.
