Overview

Quantum Telecommunications Italy (QTI), founded in October 2020 in Florence as a spin-off of the National Institute of Optics of Italy’s National Research Council (CNR), builds reconfigurable quantum key distribution systems. Its flagship Quell-X is a QKD system with Alice and Bob units for telecom use. Telsy S.p.A., the cybersecurity and cryptography centre of the TIM Group, acquired part of the company in 2021 and QTI is now its subsidiary; Prato Industrial Smart Accelerator is also an investor. It has about 28 employees.

The company leads work on quantum repeaters through the QuRe project, and its CTO Davide Bacco received an ERC Starting Grant.
