Ericom

Ericom (originally Ericom Software, founded 1993 in Closter, New Jersey) built its early business on remote application access before pivoting into cloud security around remote browser isolation (RBI). In April 2023, Cradlepoint — a 5G wireless networking vendor owned by Ericsson — acquired Ericom to round out its Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and zero trust offering for hybrid and cellular-connected enterprises. Ericom now operates as a distinct security product line, branded ‘Ericom Security by Cradlepoint,’ within Ericsson’s much larger telecom and networking business.

The product, ZTEdge, is a Security Service Edge (SSE) platform built around remote browser isolation: rather than trying to detect malicious web content, it renders web pages and email links in an isolated cloud container and streams only safe pixels to the endpoint, which sidesteps most browser-based zero-day and phishing exploits by construction. Around that core, Ericom layers a secure web gateway, cloud access security broker, clientless zero trust network access for unmanaged devices and contractors, virtual meeting isolation for Zoom/Teams/Meet, and policy-based controls for generative AI tools to prevent data and IP leakage into public models.

Ericom’s relevance inside Cradlepoint is as the security layer for Cradlepoint’s 5G-connected branch and IoT deployments, where Ericsson is positioning a combined connectivity-plus-security bundle. Because isolation-based architecture blocks entire classes of browser exploitation rather than relying on signature or behavioral detection, it remains a credible technical approach, though as a division of a much larger telecom hardware business, Ericom’s specific security-line financial and customer metrics are no longer reported separately.
