Viakoo builds an attack surface management platform focused specifically on Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems (CPS) devices — IP cameras, badge readers, sensors, and other network-connected hardware that traditional IT vulnerability management tools typically miss because they don’t run agents and are often left off asset inventories entirely. The platform automates discovery of these devices and remediation of common exposure points: outdated firmware, default or weak passwords, and expired network certificates, at a scale that would otherwise require manual, device-by-device intervention.

Founded in 2013 by Bud Broomhead and Manqing Liu and headquartered in Mountain View, California, Viakoo raised a $10 million Series A in 2021 led by Shasta Ventures, with participation from existing investor Stanley Black & Decker, bringing total disclosed funding to roughly $11.5 million. That strategic investment turned into a real commercial relationship: Stanley Security has embedded Viakoo’s automation into its IntelAssure IoT managed services offering, giving the company a concrete, named customer deployment beyond its own marketing claims.

Viakoo occupies a genuinely underserved niche — physical security and IoT device fleets have repeatedly been the entry point for large-scale botnets and network compromises, yet most enterprise vulnerability management programs are built around agent-capable IT endpoints and don’t reach cameras, sensors, or access-control hardware. Viakoo’s bet is that this device class needs its own dedicated remediation workflow rather than being bolted onto general IT vulnerability tooling.
