Rubrik Zero Labs

Rubrik Zero Labs is the data-security research division of backup and cyber-recovery vendor Rubrik, launched to analyze the global threat landscape and publish research-backed insights on emerging data-security risks. Unlike a typical vendor blog, Zero Labs runs its own survey-based and telemetry-based research studies, publishing reports on topics such as ransomware payment outcomes, identity-driven attacks, and organizational impacts of cyberattacks (including leadership turnover following incidents).

The unit is led by Steve Stone, who brings over 15 years of threat intelligence experience from the U.S. military, intelligence community, and private sector. Notable published findings include that only 16% of organizations that paid a ransomware demand recovered all their data using attacker-supplied decryption tools, and that roughly a third of organizations were forced to change security leadership following a cyberattack.

Zero Labs’ explicit aim is to deliver vendor-agnostic insights that inform how organizations think about data-security risk broadly, rather than purely promoting Rubrik’s own backup and recovery products, positioning it alongside other vendor-affiliated but editorially independent threat-research arms.
