PreEmptive Solutions

PreEmptive Solutions builds binary code protection for application developers, using a layered combination of obfuscation, encryption, root/jailbreak detection, runtime shielding, and tamper-proofing to make it harder for attackers to reverse-engineer, tamper with, or extract intellectual property from compiled applications. Its tools — most notably Dotfuscator for .NET and DashO for Java/Android and other platforms — target developers who need to protect application logic and sensitive data even when the binary itself ends up in an attacker’s hands, a different threat model from network- or runtime-focused application security tools.

Acquired by Idera in March 2021 and folded into Idera’s DevOps business unit alongside tools like TestRail, Ranorex, and Assembla, PreEmptive continues to operate under its own brand and website rather than being absorbed into a generic parent-company product line, which is why it is profiled here as a distinct entity rather than under Idera. The acquisition gave PreEmptive access to a larger DevOps distribution channel while it kept its specialized focus on code protection.

PreEmptive’s customer base is one of its stronger evidentiary points: the company states its tools are used by Fortune 500 organizations including GE, FedEx, Microsoft, IBM, and Cisco Systems, a claim that is at least plausible given Dotfuscator’s long history of being bundled directly with Microsoft Visual Studio. As with most named-customer claims from vendors, the specific scope and depth of each relationship (e.g., whether it’s enterprise-wide use or a single team) is not independently documented, but the breadth and specificity of the customer list is more concrete than typical unnamed "leading enterprises" marketing language.
