Offroad is building what it calls an agentic identity security team: AI agents that continuously investigate and remediate access-related risk across an organization’s full identity landscape, spanning human employees, machine service accounts, and AI agents themselves. The company’s thesis is that identity review and remediation work has outgrown what human teams can realistically keep pace with manually, particularly as machine and agentic identities multiply far faster than human headcount.
Founded in September 2025 and based in New York with an additional presence in Tel Aviv, Offroad was started by CEO Dan Bendler, who previously founded two AI startups that together raised more than $45 million, and CTO Philip Shteyn, a former Unit 8200 captain who helped build Palo Alto Networks’ Cortex platform. The company emerged from stealth in June 2026 with a $7 million seed round led by Ibex Investors and Skywell Capital Partners.
Offroad enters a increasingly crowded identity-security field where several similarly-funded startups are racing to extend identity governance from human accounts to machine and agentic identities, making differentiation on execution and enterprise fit an open question at this early stage.
Innovation Matrix Assessment
Founders with prior track records (a former Palo Alto Networks Cortex builder, a two-time AI founder) moved from founding to a funded, working product within roughly nine months.
Automating identity access review across human, machine, and AI agent identities addresses a real and growing operational burden for identity and access teams.
A $7M seed led by Ibex Investors and Skywell Capital is a reasonable but early-stage signal without yet disclosed named enterprise customers.
Extending identity governance to agentic identities is a timely extension of ITDR and identity governance thinking rather than an entirely new paradigm.
Too new for independent validation; no named customer outcomes or third-party testing are publicly available.
Machine and AI agent identities are proliferating faster than human identities across most enterprises, keeping this problem space relevant for the foreseeable future.
Why CISOs Should Care
It gives identity teams an AI-agent workforce of their own to keep access reviews and remediation on pace with a rapidly growing count of machine and agent identities.
What Makes It Different
It treats human, machine, and AI agent identities as a single governed population rather than managing agentic identities as a bolt-on to existing IAM tooling.
The Matrix Verdict
53/100 — INCREMENTAL INNOVATOR
Offroad is an Incremental Innovator: a credible, experienced founding team addressing a real and growing identity governance gap, in a category crowded enough that early execution will matter as much as the idea.
