Overview

Founded in London in 2020 by Adriano Koshiyama and Emre Kazim, Holistic AI grew out of academic research on algorithmic auditing and has built a governance, risk and compliance platform aimed at organizations that need to inventory and control AI use across the enterprise.

The platform’s core functions are AI discovery (integrating with AWS, Azure, GitHub and Databricks, among others, to surface unsanctioned or ‘shadow’ AI usage), a library of 40-plus automated tests covering bias, safety, security and performance, and compliance mapping to frameworks including the EU AI Act, ISO 42001 and NYC Local Law 144. A newer ‘Guardian Agents’ capability adds real-time oversight of autonomous AI systems.

Holistic AI has raised institutional funding from investors including Tola Capital, Mozilla Ventures and Premji Invest, employs roughly 90 people as of mid-2026, and was named a Challenger in Gartner’s inaugural Magic Quadrant for AI Governance Platforms as well as a Gartner Cool Vendor for AI Security.

Innovation Matrix Assessment

Innovation Velocity 6/10

Expanded from bias-auditing research tool to a full governance platform with real-time 'Guardian Agents' over roughly five years.

Operational Value 7/10

Combines shadow-AI discovery with automated testing and compliance mapping, giving security and risk teams a fairly complete operational picture in one platform.

Market Momentum 7/10

Gartner Magic Quadrant Challenger placement, ~90 employees, and multiple institutional investors indicate real market traction for a company its size.

Category Disruption 5/10

Strong feature breadth, but the discovery-plus-compliance model is an incremental evolution of GRC tooling rather than a fundamentally new security paradigm.

Real-World Efficacy 5/10

Test-suite breadth is documented, but no independent benchmark comparing detection accuracy against competitors was found.

Enduring Relevance 7/10

Regulatory pressure (EU AI Act and similar rules) makes AI governance and compliance mapping a durable, likely-growing requirement for enterprises.

Why CISOs Should Care

CISOs increasingly need a single inventory of where AI is actually running in the business before they can secure or govern it — Holistic AI's discovery-plus-compliance approach addresses that visibility gap directly.

What Makes It Different

Holistic AI's academic-audit origins give it unusually deep bias/fairness testing depth compared to security-first competitors, combined with broad regulatory-framework mapping rather than a narrower prompt-security focus.

The Matrix Verdict

62/100 — INCREMENTAL INNOVATOR

One of the more established and independently recognized players in AI governance, with real analyst validation (Gartner Magic Quadrant Challenger) and enterprise-scale headcount, though its center of gravity is governance and compliance more than technical runtime security.

Editorial Note: Claims vs. Verified Findings

Customer counts and specific test-coverage numbers are vendor-stated; Gartner Magic Quadrant and Cool Vendor placements are independently verifiable third-party recognition.
