Gyala

Gyala grew out of Italy’s defense industry, and its core product, AGGER, still shows that lineage: it’s an automated cyber-defense platform designed to detect, react to, and contain threats across IT, OT, and IoT environments continuously and without manual intervention — a design brief that comes from protecting mission-critical, high-operational-criticality systems where a human-in-the-loop SOC response is too slow. AGGER was developed in collaboration with Italy’s Ministry of Defense as part of the National Military Research Plan, then tested, validated, and deployed in military environments before Gyala brought the same automated-response architecture to critical infrastructure and enterprise customers.

Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Rome, Gyala is 100% Italian-owned and has focused its commercial expansion on sectors where IT/OT convergence creates real operational risk: energy, healthcare, finance, industry, naval, and public administration. The company raised a EUR 5 million seed round in July 2022 from Italian Angels for Growth, Azimut Libera Impresa, and CDP Venture Capital — state-linked venture capital that reflects Italy’s broader push to build sovereign cybersecurity capability for critical infrastructure protection.

Gyala’s military pedigree is a genuine differentiator in a market crowded with generic detection-and-response vendors: AGGER’s continuous, autonomous defense model was built and hardened for environments where downtime or delayed response has physical-world consequences, not just data-loss consequences. That heritage is also a limiter — Gyala remains a small, largely Italy-and-Europe-focused vendor competing against much larger, more globally distributed OT security players.
