689Cloud builds information rights management (IRM/DRM) software that lets organizations control what happens to a document or attachment after it leaves their network: encryption, view and download tracking, watermarking, copy protection, and expiry, applied to email attachments and shared files rather than relying on the recipient’s own security hygiene.

Founded in 2020 and based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 689Cloud ships two core products: SecureMail, an Outlook/Office add-in that lets business users send tracked, protected attachments up to 1GB and copy-protect downloaded Office and PDF files; and SecureDrive, a cloud collaboration platform aimed at CIOs and CISOs who need to share confidential files with outside parties without losing control of them. The company’s most publicly documented deployment is with the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), where 689Cloud’s DRM technology was integrated into UEH’s learning management system to protect recorded lecture content, described by the university as the first such application of DRM in a Vietnamese higher-education LMS.

689Cloud remains a small, regionally-focused vendor competing against far larger IRM/DRM incumbents like Microsoft Purview and Seclore. Its relevance is strongest for SMB and education-sector customers in Southeast Asia who need document-level protection at a price point and simplicity level those larger platforms don’t target.
