Overview

EmpowerID, founded in 2005 and based in Dublin, Ohio, is an all-in-one identity management and cloud security suite offering single sign-on, user provisioning, identity governance, role mining, delegated administration, password management, privileged access management and an attribute-based authorization engine. It has been led since its start by founder and CEO Patrick Parker.

Omada announced the acquisition on September 24, 2026 (terms not disclosed), citing EmpowerID’s runtime authorization technology – including its EmpowerNow AI components – as a way to control what AI agents can do in real time alongside human and non-human identities. Parker joins Omada as Chief Innovation Officer.

Innovation Matrix Assessment

Innovation Velocity 5/10

Added AI-agent authorization components to a long-standing suite.

Operational Value 6/10

Covers governance, provisioning and authorization in one platform, reducing integration work for identity teams.

Market Momentum 4/10

A small company with a modest installed base compared with leading IGA vendors; the Omada deal is the main momentum signal.

Category Disruption 5/10

Attribute-based runtime authorization is a differentiated approach in IGA.

Founder-led for 20 years with a recognizable product, but no independent test data was found.

Enduring Relevance 7/10

Runtime governance of non-human and AI identities is a durable, growing need.

Why CISOs Should Care

Governing what AI agents are allowed to do at runtime, not just who holds which entitlements, is an emerging requirement for identity programs; EmpowerID's authorization engine is what Omada bought to address it.

What Makes It Different

An attribute-based authorization engine that can make real-time access decisions, now being folded into a leading IGA platform to govern AI agents.
