HelmGuard is a London-headquartered governance, risk and compliance startup founded in 2024 by CEO John Daley, a former Palantir executive with eight years handling deals plus internal security/compliance/data protection, and CTO Jack Miller, an AI researcher who worked on early large language models at OpenAI and Google. The platform, built around a knowledge graph called “Atlas,” pulls risk, security, and compliance data from documents and source systems into one connected network, then runs purpose-built AI agents across three workflows: internal compliance assessment, third-party risk management, and oversight/governance of other AI agents, aligned to frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, and NIST CSF.
The differentiator it claims is replacing static, point-in-time compliance paperwork with continuously-updated, agent-driven risk monitoring, targeting regulated sectors including finance, insurance, healthcare, and industrials. It closed a $7.3M seed round in September 2026, co-led by Infinity Ventures and Frontline, with FinTech Collective, Stage 2 Capital, and Entrepreneurs First also participating.
Innovation Matrix Assessment
Moved from founding to a well-covered agentic-GRC seed launch, but track record is still very short.
Automating compliance evidence-gathering and third-party risk work has genuine time-saving value for compliance/security teams.
A fresh, well-backed seed round with credible investors, but zero publicly disclosed customers or usage data yet.
"Agentic AI for GRC" is a trend many vendors are chasing simultaneously; not yet a demonstrated new way of solving the problem.
Essentially pre-track-record; no independent evidence of real-world efficacy exists yet.
Demand for continuous, automated compliance monitoring is durable if the company executes.
Why CISOs Should Care
Promises to cut the manual burden of evidence-gathering for compliance frameworks and third-party risk reviews using AI agents instead of spreadsheets.
What Makes It Different
Built around a unified "Atlas" knowledge graph feeding purpose-built AI agents, rather than static questionnaires and periodic audits.
The Matrix Verdict
50/100 — INCREMENTAL INNOVATOR
A well-pedigreed, well-funded but unproven entrant in an increasingly crowded agentic-GRC space.
Editorial Note: Claims vs. Verified Findings
As a just-funded company, no customer or efficacy claims have yet been independently verified.
