Venari Security analyzes encrypted network traffic for signs of threats and anomalous behavior without decrypting it — using machine learning and behavioral analytics on metadata like packet timing, size patterns, and TLS handshake characteristics rather than payload inspection. That matters because as more attack traffic, including command-and-control and data exfiltration, moves over encrypted channels, security teams face a choice between costly, latency-adding decrypt-and-inspect approaches or losing visibility altogether; Venari’s pitch is a third option that preserves both privacy and detection capability.

Founded in London in 2019 after CEO Tom Millar encountered academic research on Encrypted Traffic Analysis (ETA), the company has raised roughly $5.8 million to date and grown to around 46 employees, including a development center in Tunis, Tunisia. Early validation came through the UK National Cyber Security Centre’s cyber accelerator program and the Barclays Techstars accelerator, both selective programs that vet participating companies before admission.

Venari describes itself as the only company solely focused on decryption-free encrypted traffic analysis, a claim that is difficult to independently verify given how the broader network detection and response (NDR) category increasingly incorporates similar ETA techniques as one feature among many, meaning its long-term differentiation will depend on staying ahead of that convergence rather than on maintaining current uniqueness.
