Bleach Cyber builds a continuous scanning and remediation platform aimed squarely at startups and small businesses that have no dedicated security staff. The product connects into a company’s existing stack — cloud accounts, SaaS tools, email, endpoints — and surfaces vulnerabilities and misconfigurations through automated scans, then walks the user through fixing them via guided, interactive remediation steps rather than handing back a raw findings report that assumes security expertise the customer doesn’t have. A companion Chrome extension extends that guidance directly into the browser for Bleach platform users.
Founded in 2022 by CEO Craig Goodwin — a former CISO at Fujitsu, Monster Worldwide, and CDK Global, and previously a co-founder of cybersecurity-as-a-service company Cyvatar — and Steve Daniels, Bleach Cyber is based in San Francisco. The company went through the Techstars accelerator in 2023 and closed a $2 million pre-seed round in May 2024 from investors including Everywhere VC, BlueWing Ventures, and Concept Ventures. By the time of that raise, the company reported more than 500 businesses using its platform.
Goodwin’s operating-CISO background and prior founding experience at Cyvatar are real credibility signals for a company this young, and the attack-surface-plus-remediation model addresses a genuine gap for resource-constrained SMBs. That said, Bleach Cyber is a pre-seed-stage company with a small team, no independent security testing or named enterprise case studies publicly available, and a still-unproven ability to detect and remediate at the depth a dedicated vulnerability management platform can; its "1000+ Protected Clients" and "99.9% Uptime" claims are self-reported marketing figures rather than audited statistics.
Innovation Matrix Assessment
Bleach shipped a full platform (scanning, remediation guidance, a Chrome extension) within roughly two years of founding and completing a Techstars program, a reasonable pace for a pre-seed team of this size.
As a very early-stage company (reportedly single-digit-to-small team size) serving SMB customers, the platform's real-world operational maturity, support infrastructure, and scan depth are unproven relative to established attack-surface and vulnerability management vendors.
A 2023 Techstars cohort placement and a $2M pre-seed round in May 2024 with a reported 500+ businesses on the platform by that point are genuine, checkable early-traction signals for a company this young.
Guided, non-expert-friendly remediation bundled with continuous scanning targets a real SMB usability gap, but the underlying scan-and-remediate approach is a well-established pattern in the vulnerability management and attack surface management categories, not a novel architecture.
No independent security testing, named case studies, or third-party validation of detection accuracy is publicly available; the company's customer count and uptime figures are self-reported and unaudited.
Continuous, low-friction exposure management remains squarely relevant for the large population of small businesses that need baseline security hygiene and compliance evidence but have no security staff to operate a traditional vulnerability management program.
Why CISOs Should Care
For a small business or startup founder without a security team, Bleach Cyber offers a lower-friction, guided path to finding and fixing basic exposure across cloud and SaaS tools than operating a traditional vulnerability scanner would require.
What Makes It Different
Bleach pairs scanning with step-by-step, non-expert remediation guidance and a browser extension, aiming at usability for non-security teams rather than depth of coverage for mature security programs.
The Matrix Verdict
47/100 — EMERGING / UNRANKED
A young, credibly founded (ex-CISO leadership, Techstars-vetted) SMB exposure management platform with real early traction, but still pre-seed stage with no independent validation of its security efficacy; reasonable for very small businesses with no other option, not yet a fit for organizations with more mature security needs.
Editorial Note: Claims vs. Verified Findings
Vendor-sourced and unverified: the '1000+ Protected Clients' and '99.9% Uptime Guarantee' figures on Bleach Security's own site, and the specific 2023-2024 breach case studies referenced in its marketing. Independently verifiable: the 2022 founding, the May 2024 $2M pre-seed round and its investor list (reported via PRWeb/SaaS News), the 2023 Techstars cohort placement, and CEO Craig Goodwin's prior CISO and Cyvatar co-founder background.
